Baldur’s Gate 3 mods you need to try
Ever since a partial version of Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in Early Access in 2020, modders everywhere have been tweaking, improving, and upgrading the game in a myriad of different ways. From tiny quality of life tweaks to massive additions of original content, there seems to be an endless supply of Baldur’s Gate 3 mods. Now, with the full game officially released, the mods keep coming.
Recently the modder Bloc, who previously used Inworld’s AI Engine to bring NPCs to life in games like Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and Skyrim, managed to cast the same spell in Baldur’s Gate 3. By harnessing the power of generative AI, Bloc’s mod allows you to talk to NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 voice-to-voice and have them respond to any query in real-time. It’s an exciting preview of the potential future of gaming.
To celebrate the release of Bloc’s mod, we set out on our own quest - to find and share the best or most essential Baldur’s Gate 3 mods across a wide variety of categories. Grab your dice and let’s adventure!

1. Inworld AI - Baldur’s Gate 3 AI mod
- Overview: Using Inworld’s AI Engine, Bloc, the well-known AI-modder, has done it again. With this Baldur’s Gate 3 AI mod, you can talk directly to in-game companions about anything you want. Ask them about the lore, the setting, or what they ate for dinner.
- Modder: Bloc
- Why we love it: While Baldur’s Gate 3’s writing is second to none, sometimes you just want to chat to an NPC about something that’s off-script. Bloc’s Baldur’s Gate 3 AI mod allows you to do just that, harnessing the power of Inworld’s AI Engine to allow you to chat to NPCs and hear their unscripted responses. 2. Tactician Plus - Baldur’s Gate 3 tactician mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s gate 3 tactician mod allows you to tweak the bonuses for Tactician Mode, the default hardest difficulty for Baldur’s Gate 3’s campaign.
- Modder: Feriat111
- Why we love it: Is Baldur’s Gate 3’s ‘hard mode’, AKA Tactician mode, not hard enough for you? Or maybe it’s a little too challenging? This mod allows you to tweak Tactician mode’s numbers up or down, allowing you more fine-grained control. When using mods like the Party Limit Begone mod, for example, you’ll likely easily mow down the average monster. Using this Baldur’s Gate 3 tactician mod will let you rebalance things to taste.

3. Appearance Edit - Baldur’s Gate 3 change appearance mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 Kobold mod adds a staggering 54 new playable races to the game from across the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse, including playable kobolds, goblins, changelings and more.
- Modder: DungeonsAndSouls
- Why we love it: While Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you lots of races to choose from, this mod expands your options dramatically beyond the world of Faerûn to include a staggering 54 playable races and counting. They hail from Eberron (from D&D 3.5E, including Changelings and Shifters), Golarion (from the Pathfinder RPG, including Aasimar and Dhampir), Krynn (from Dragonlance, including Kender), Etharis (from Grim Hollow, including Laneshi and Ogresh), and more. There are even races from the modder’s homebrewed campaign. Chances are if your favorite race isn’t included, it’s planned to be added in the future. This Baldur’s Gate 3 Kobold mod is an essential mod for D&D fans!

4. Hairstyle Changer - Baldur’s Gate 3 change hair mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 change hair mod adds an external utility that lets you swap hairstyles on characters.
- Modder: AaronEC
- Why we love it: For some reason, Larian Studios decided that whatever choice you made at character creation regarding hairstyle was your final choice for the game’s duration. This mod says no to that by allowing you to essentially rewire the list of hairstyles so that what once was, say, a mohawk is now a delightful topknot (and vice versa). It’s a little fiddly to use, but this Baldur’s Gate 3 change hair mod does exactly what it says, no barber’s chair or salon appointment required.

5. Tav’s Hair Salon - Baldur’s Gate 3 hair mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 hair mod adds 29 new hairstyles mostly for human, elf, half-elf, tiefling and drow body types.
- Modder: Toarie
- Why we love it: If none of the in-game hairstyles for Baldur’s Gate 3 are really working for you, this mod expands your choices with a wide variety of hairstyles from the classic (Rapunzel!) to the functional (a lovely set of braids). Initially mostly focused on female hairstyles, this particular Baldur’s Gate 3 hair mod has been expanded to apply to male characters too.

6. New Character Creation - Baldur’s Gate 3 face mods
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 face mod gives you a treasure chest full of new preset faces for character creation.
- Modder: Toarie
- Why we love it: We’ve come a long way since characters in the original Baldur’s Gate were represented by static portraits, but sometimes you just want more character creation presets. This mod gives you that, and then some. Hundreds of new presets to help you find that just right face for your character. Combine this Baldur’s Gate 3 face mod with other mods listed here and you will truly be the ultimate character creator.

7. UnlockLevelCurve - Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap mod unlocks levels 13-20 for higher level play – and also implements new progression curves for smoother leveling overall.
- Modder: nitram166
- Why we love it: Baldur’s Gate 3 is level-capped at 12, but what’s the best thing in D&D? Leveling, of course. There are several mods that remove the level cap, but UnlockLevelCurve not only lets you level a character to 20 (or multiclass to a combined level 20) it also adds a variety of leveling curves. These alter the experience point totals required per level, making your leveling progress feel smoother and less of a grind at higher levels. Who doesn’t love smoother leveling?

8. Level 20 - Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap mod unlocks levels 13-20 with some alternate leveling paths included.
- Modder: Malcroix
- Why we love it: Similar to the UnlockLevelCurve mod, Level 20 does what the title says - allow you to level to 20, way past the normal Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap of 12. However, as Baldur’s Gate 3 is designed to finish the story about level 12, this mod also allows you to use a faster leveling mode where XP is doubled, or even skip to level 20 just to test builds and see how it ‘feels’. If you want to get to those higher levels without the story ending early, this could be the mod for you.

9. Party Limit Begone - Baldur’s Gate 3 more companions mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 more companions mod quadruples the size of your adventuring party from 4 to 16 and in multiplayer to 8 players total.
- Modder: RB Hughes
- Why we love it: Fun fact: old-school Dungeons & Dragons campaigns often catered to massive tables of players, with ten-plus being fairly normal. This XXXL-sized mod will give you a taste of that, increasing your party limit to a frankly game-breaking 16, and allowing you to play with up to 7 other friends in multiplayer. Bring your small army to bear on whatever Baldur’s Gate 3 can throw at you. Pair it with mods like Tactician Plus to ensure there’s still a challenge.

10. Artificer Class and All Subclasses - Baldur’s Gate 3 Artificer mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 Artificer mod adds the Artificer class and all relevant subclasses, including Alchemist, Armorer, Artillerist and Battle Smith.
- Modder: KiderionLykon
- Why we love it: A new class is usually the kind of thing reserved for DLC, but not with this mod! While it’s not official, it’s about as close as you could hope for, recreating as much of the Artificer class from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything as possible. If you want to brew potions, form shield walls, set up explosives or just leap into battle, this is your mod. It’s a great way to really expand Baldur’s Gate 3 for a later playthrough.

11. Baldur’s Gate 3 Bladesinger mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 Bladeslinger mod adds the ‘wizard with a sword’ hybrid subclass from Dungeons & Dragons 5E to Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Modder: DiZ91891
- Why we love it: Wizards + swords = awesome in our eyes, and you probably think so too. If you’re a fan of this wizard subclass which first appeared in a Forgotten Realms supplement, this mod allows you to play them in Baldur’s Gate 3 up to 12th level, the game’s vanilla maximum level. With extra abilities like Bladesong and Song of Defense, you’ll be slicing and spell-slinging in no time.

12. Custom Auto-Save - Baldur’s Gate 3 autosave mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 autosave mod improves the default auto-save settings.
- Modder: elitemaneger
- Why we love it: While Baldur’s Gate 3 does autosave - and the number of autosaves you have stored can be adjusted - it only autosaves at specific checkpoints. What if you’d rather save every few minutes, without doing it yourself? This mod has you covered, allowing you to set the game to auto-save at any minute-based interval you like. Easy, simple and handy - a great little Baldur’s Gate 3 autosave mod.

13. Native Camera Tweaks - Baldur’s Gate 3 camera mod
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 camera mod unlocks the default camera in the game allowing for some new and interesting ways to play - or just look at - the game.
- Modder: Ershin
- Why we love it: Baldur’s Gate 3 is absolutely beautiful, but sometimes when we want to add to our burgeoning screenshot folder the default camera angle doesn’t quite cut it. Enter this mod, which allows you to unlock camera pitch, zoom limits, FOV (field of view) and much more, including controller support. Get those cameras clicking.

14. Tutorial Chest Summoning - Baldur’s Gate 3 cheat mods
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 cheat mod allows you to summon the Tutorial Chest - or the Cartilagnious Chest, if we’re being precise - at any point in your playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Modder: wesslen
- Why we love it: Ah, mods that begat other mods; a good sign of a mature modding scene for any game. A number of Baldur’s Gate 3 cheat mods add special items to the Tutorial Chest to allow you to equip them to your party, which is fine for a new playthrough, but not much help if you’re 40-hours deep and don’t want to restart. This mod lets you summon said chest at any time, giving you access to those sweet modded items at any point in your epic quest. Simple but very effective!

15. All Items - Baldur’s Gate 3 cheat mods
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 cheat mod gives you all the weapons and armor in the game, somehow stuffed into one barrel.
- Modder: ImMph
- Why we love it: Clearly, this is a massive cheat mod for Baldur’s Gate 3, but we understand - sometimes you just have to have that one sword or that one piece of armor you loved from a previous playthrough and who wants to wait for it? This mod adds every weapon and armor piece in game into one measly barrel. It’s the ultimate shopping spree for your Baldur’s Gate 3 party.

16. Basket Full of Equipment - Baldur’s Gate 3 clothing mods
- Overview: This Baldur’s Gate 3 clothing mod adds hundreds of new armor and equipment pieces with the caveat they’re mostly suited for humanlike races.
- Modder: AnteMaxx
- Why we love it: Starting a new campaign? Install this mod, turn around in the starting area and boom! A basket that’s full of equipment, as the name suggests. There’s a staggering amount of custom stuff in here to get your new characters off to an incredible start (and the basket can also be found later in the game). With over 3 years of development work, there are almost 700 armors for female human-like characters and over 500 for male human-like characters. There are also handy spells not found in the base game, all of the in-game dyes for color choices and even a few weapons to equip you, too. It’s a cornucopia of useful stuff for the Baldur’s Gate 3 player who wants everything now!
